Yasuhiro Maehara
Biographic Sketch

Dr. Yasuhiro Maehara, ICAS Fellow, assumed his current position of General Manager in the Americas of the Bank of Japan, Japan's central bank, in December 2000. Before then, Yasu held a number of important positions at the Bank of Japan.

From 1998 through 2000, he was Adviser to the Governor in the Secretariat to the Policy Board in charge of Diet liaison. From 1996 to 1998, he was General Manager of Kagoshima Branch, Japan. From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Maehara was Chief Manager and Head of Planning and Coordination Division, International Department. From 1992 to 1995, he served as Chief Representative at the Bank of Japan Office in Washington, D.C. Yasu joined the Bank of Japan in 1974.

Dr. Maehara graduated from Hitotsubashi University with a bachelor's degree in Economics in 1974. In 1981, he received his Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics. Yasu lives in New Jersey with his wife and two children.
