"KOREA MONTH"
proclaimed by
The Hon John F Street
Mayor
City of Philadelphia
Dear Friend:
We are pleased to share with you that The Hon John F Street, Mayor of
City of Philadelphia, proclaimed month of August 2006 as KOREA MONTH.
A full text of his Proclamation is as follows:
CITY OF PHILADELPHIA
Proclamation
Philadelphia
is home to many varied cultures, prime among them a Korean
population of at least
10,000. An increasing number of Korean-American
citizens are establishing themselves
and contributing to the ongoing
diversity and stability of this historic city through
entrepreneurship.
This vital community has grown since Inchon, Korea, became a
sister city
to Philadelphia in 1984. The past two decades have witnessed the valuable
contributions
of Korean-American professionals, as well as civic and
business leaders, to the
social and economic fabric of our city, our
commonwealth and our nation.
Korean
Americans continue to represent a vital dimension of Philadelphia's
dynamic ethnic,
social and financial culture. The city also recognizes the
fundamental role of
the Institute for Corean-American Studies, Inc.
(ICAS), for its enduring promotion
and advancement of Korean-American
affairs as we celebrate the "ICAS Summer Symposium
2006: The Korean
Diaspora" in Philadelphia. Thanks to institutions and efforts
like these, the
next generation of Korean-American citizens can continue in the
spirit of a
proud and accomplished heritage.
THEREFORE ...
I, John F Street,
Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, do hereby proclaim the
month of August 2006
as
KOREA MONTH
in our city, and I urge all citizens to acknowledge the outstanding
contributions
of our Korean-American community.
JOHN F STREET
Mayor
Given under my hand
and the
Seal of the City of Philadelphia,
this fifth day of August,
two thousand and six.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Sang Joo Kim / signed
Sr. Fellow & Executive Vice President
