We are
pleased to share with you that First Secretary Zheng Shao will address "China's
Rise: Its Implications for Asia and the United States" at the ICAS Fall Symposium 2006
on October 11, 2006 at the United States House Rayburn Office Building Room 2200,
Capitol Hill, Washington DC.
Zheng was an interpreter for President Jiang Zemin,
Premier Zhu Rongji and other top Chinese leaders.
Below is his brief vitae.
Education:
1980-1986: Hangzhou Foreign Languages School. English studies
1986-1992: Foreign
Affairs College, Beijing. Major in international law and international relations
Work experience:
1992-1996: Interpreter at the Department of Translation and Interpretation,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Interpreter for President Jiang Zemin, Premier
Zhu Rongji and other Chinese leaders. Attend many UN conferences, including conferences
by the World Health Organization, World Food and Agriculture Organization, International
Labour Organization, etc.
1996-1997: Department of International Organizations
and Conferences, MFA. Dealt with China's multilateral diplomacy, especially China's
cooperation with European and Asian countries
1997-2001: Chinese Embassy in Britain
before and after the Hong Kong hand-over. Served as the special assistant to the
Ambassador. Organized President Jiang's state visit to Britain and the Asia-Europe
Summit Meeting in London.
2001-2005: Director, Foreign Ministry Spokesman's Office.
Dealt with 400 foreign correspondents in China and organized around 100 press conferences
by China's leaders and Foreign Ministry Spokesmen every year. Traveled widely to
give lectures on public diplomacy. Attended three rounds of the Six Party Talks
as press officer.
2005.5- : First Secretary, Political Section, Chinese Embassy
in U.S.. Work with the White House and State Department on bilateral relations,
including visits by President Hu Jintao and President Bush. Special interest in
international law, U.S. policy towards China, human rights issue, Taiwan, Tibet,
Korea and other issues
Family and Interest:
Married, one 5-year-old son. Wife
also works at the Embassy as interpreter for the Ambassador and as congressional
relations officer.
Love reading, traveling and sports, including tennis, table tennis,
basketball and football.
