Jeong H. Kim ICAS Fellow named Minister of Future Creative Science Ministry Republic of Korea

Dear Friend: We are pleased to share with you that Jeong H. Kim, ICAS Fellow, was nominated by President-Elect of South Korea to head a newly created Ministry of Creative Future Science. Jeong is the fourth ICAS Fellow who has reached the government rank of Minister or Secretary. Others are Elaine L. Chao (US Labour Secretary), Erlan A. Idrissov (Kazakhstan Foreign Minister) and Zhaoxing Li (China's Foreign Minister). Jeong currently serves as President of Bell Labs, one of the world's foremost centers of research in communications technologies. He also is Chief Strategy Officer of Alcatel-Lucent, a global tele- communications equipment company. The new ministry will be in charge of science and technology as well as IT and communications issues. Jeong was conferred ICAS Liberty Award at the ICAS 1998 Fall Symposium and he delivered remarks, Technology and Values And the Value of Technology: Shaping Life in the Information Age. Thank you.
