We are pleased to share with you that The Hon Takekazu Kawamura, Ambassador & Consul General of Japan in New York will speak at the ICAS Reception & Dinner on February 11, 2000.
Ambassador Kawamura was appointed Consul General of Japan in New York in September 1999 and came to New York with his wife to assume the post. Serving at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for almost 35 years he has held a wide variety of diplomatic posts, beginning his career at the Embassy of Japan in Paris. He later served at the Permanent Delegation of Japan to the International Organization in Geneva; the permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations in New York; as Counselor, then Minister, at the Embassy of Japan in Brussels; and as Minister, then Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Japan in Paris.
While in Tokyo, Ambassador Kawamura's main responsibilities have been Deputy Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister; Director, Legal Affairs Division, Treaties Bureau; Deputy Director-General, Economic Affairs Bureau; Ambassador, Director-General, United Nations Bureau, Ambassador, Director-General for Arms Control and Scientific Affairs; and finally, Chief of Protocol for two years prior to his present assignment.
