Minister Zheng was deputy director in the Department of North America & Oceania Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later worked in the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC. From 1999 to 2004, he was director of U.S. Affairs and deputy director-general in the Department of North America & Oceania Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People's Republic of China. Over the years, Minister Zheng attended various training programs organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions, including a senior executive program co-organized by the prestigious Qinghua University and Harvard University.
